The present schema, named “Universal Binary Classification” is built on two principles of a hierarchical relationship and Binary Theory. It is inspired by one of the verses in the Holy Quran and has features that its designer claims to make it qualified with the advantages found in other classification schemes. It also has the further advantage of completely matching the classification of science, having a firm philosophical foundation, easy learning, flexibility and computer-readiness. The schema was implemented as a pilot in the subject areas of library and information sciences and Islam in McGill University Central Library. A Delphi test provided further positive results.
