Experience documentation is one of the important resources for knowledge preservation, development and transfer and its realization in an organization without knowing the status of experience documentation is impossible. Thus this study was conducted with two purposes of developing integrated experience documentation theory and examining its status from the viewpoint of experts in a public organization. The research method is descriptive-analytical and survey. In order to perform the first purpose of research, after designing research questions, a systematic search of researches was carried out based on relevant keywords from six internal and eleven external databases (from beginning to end of April 2017) and 29 researches from 111 researches were selected through purposefully sampling. By reviewing the researches, concepts related with the experience documentation were extracted, and then concepts categorized based on shared contents and re- categorized into phenomenon, context, cause, intervening conditions, strategy and consequence. Then relation of phenomenon, context, cause, intervening conditions, strategy and consequence were designed in the form of a model and by writing of propositions; integrated experience documentation theory was designed and fitness of the theory was investigated and confirmed. In order to perform the second purpose of research, a questionnaire was developed based on the above theory. Then, 42 experts from a public organization in Isfahan city were selected through purposive sampling and their views on the status of the experience documentation were obtained. Results of dependent t-Test showed that experience documentation in the organization in the present study are lower than the desired status. The results of Friedman test indicated that the rating of the components of the experience documentation in the present status would include the nature (i.e. phenomenon, context, cause), consequence, substructure (i.e. positive intervening conditions), barrier (i.e. negative intervening conditions) and strategy of experience documentation, while in the desired status, it should include consequence, substructure, strategy, nature and barrier of experience documentation.
