Abstract
This research attempts to ascertain the extent of educational and humanities students’ assistance-seeking from the librarian in conducting their library searches in Shiraz University. The research method is a survey one and the instrument of gathering data is a questionnaire, distributed among oone hundred students. The data analysis indicates that 92.1 percent of the respondents were in need of the librarian’s help, whereas only 76.2 percents of them sought assistance. 68 percents of the respondents asserted that they needed the most help during the stage of gathering related data. The library patrons believe that the librarian is unable to give any useful help. According to the results, students’ inadequate familiarity with the librarians’ expertise and ability is the most important barrier for the students’ attitudes toward the librarian’s abilities to assist the use of the information center. To solve such a problem, useful plannings and educational instructions would be necessary.
