The present study chose two free versions of ERIC and Search ERIC databases and two commercial versions of ERIC offered by First-Search and EBSCO. A comprehensive checklist was prepared with respect to General Information, Search Characteristics, Display options, Retrieval options and unique features. Employing library research method, a thorough study of documentations associated with various versions of ERIC as well as literature review was conducted. A comparative study was then conducted where it was attempted to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each versions against clearly defined criteria. The study showed that the commercial versions of the database possess the largest number of features. During the selection process of a databases best suited to the library conditions, in addition to the criteria outlined in the checklist, the users’ level of expertise, the scope and depth of their information need as well as library budget should also be taken into consideration
