The purpose of this investigation is to study machine-indexing process and measure the needed capabilities for employing this process in the former JSIS in order to develop a suitable model for automated indexing in Persian language in Iran. The Data were collected using interviews and by citing the available documents. A system design approach was adopted, whereby following a site analysis and review of JSIS present state of indexing practice the least necessary capabilities needed for implementation of an automated indexing system were derived. The research discovered that in order to embark on automated indexing JSIS needs to hire indexers, computer engineers and agricultural experts as well as linguists. Major upgrades must be carried out in the area of existing software’s, or alternatively new software’s should be developed for storage, identification, resolution, comparison and classification and selection of information contained in the documents being evaluated. The paper had primary dealt with non-Persian, Latin-script materials. However it had not shifted focus from Persian automated indexing.
