Developing lifelong learners is the central mission of higher education institution. Presumably, those individuals have the intellectual abilities of reasoning and critical thinking. Through colleges’ and universities’ carriers, students as informed citizens and members of communities, learning how to learn. Information literacy is a key of lifelong learning. For assessing the information literacy of individuals, standards should be determined. Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education is one of these standards that are going to be discussed in this paper. The standards included a list of outcomes for assessing student progress toward information literacy. These outcomes serve as guidelines for faculty, librarians, and others who are working to develop assessment instruments for information literacy.
