The present article studies the appearnace of Iranian authors in SCI database for the 1993-1997 period. It tries to present an actual picture of scientific activities in Iran and the world. For this purpose, scientific information of Iranian origin in form of articles dealing with basic sciences, were extracted. Irans position has been compared with the rest of the world. It was found that 0.1 percent of basic sciences articles propduced in the world belong to Iranians. More than half (52.1%) of Iraninan scientific activities has been in the area of production of article in basic sciences. Of these, Chemistry, with 55.23 percent has the highest share. Article dealing whit physics (25.91%), Mathematics (12.29%), Biology (4.99%), and Geology (1.58%) follow suite. Based on basic sciences disciplines, Iran share of the world production of article in basic sciences is, 0.14 in Chemistry, 0.087 percent in Physics, 0.17 perecent in Mathematics, 0.087 percent in Mathematics, 0.02 percent in Biology, and 0.063 percent in Geology.
