The present study was conducted with the aim of modeling the emerging phenomenon of "Extra-informationalism." This phenomenon refers to a situation in which an individual obsessively and excessively engages in continuous information seeking, even when the available information is insufficient or harmful. To date, no study has comprehensively presented the cognitive, behavioral, and environmental dimensions of this phenomenon within an integrated qualitative model. The research was carried out using a qualitative approach and a sequential exploratory mixed method in three independent stages. Stage one: a systematic meta-synthesis of 50 foundational theories related to "ambiguous information" using the PRISMA guidelines and hybrid coding in MAXQDA software. Stage two: a targeted systematic review of 65 scientific articles in the field of "information disorder" from 2021 to 2025 based on the sender-message-channel-receiver framework. Stage three: conducting in-depth semi-structured interviews with 24 graduate students selected through purposive and snowball sampling until theoretical saturation was reached. The interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis in MAXQDA. Finally, the findings from the three stages were integrated using a systems approach. The integration of the three stages led to the identification of 34 main components and 162 sub-components, which were organized into six systemic elements (system inputs, behavioral trigger components, behavioral processing components, behavioral contextual components, central processor, system outputs). The proposed model is the first integrated qualitative model of Extra-informationalism that covers both theoretical dimensions and the lived experience of users. This model provides a robust framework for designing quantitative measurement tools, neurocognitive studies, and educational-therapeutic interventions in the field of information overload management and reducing the negative consequences of obsessive information seeking.
